Support for the Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center is necessary for us to provide programs for our students and our members. General support directly funds essential events and resources such as the Young Professionals gatherings, Argus trainings, the Ballard Executive Luncheon Series, and seasonal Members’ Meetings. These contributions ensure that the Center remains an indispensable resource, driving continuous growth and fostering impactful connections across the real estate community.
Joe Gyourko Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Fund
Former Center Director and Professor Joe Gyourko had the foresight to pioneer a Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Program to attract young aspiring scholars interested in the study of real estate. These programs are now emulated in other universities and the fellowships serve as a crucial pipeline for future real estate faculty. Fellows spend two years engaging in cutting edge analytics research under the mentorship of real estate faculty before going on to top PhD programs, including Harvard, Stanford, and Chicago. The Fellowship recognizes Professor Gyourko’s impact on the real estate program and the profession.
The Karen and Asuka Nakahara Fund for Student Success and Teaching Innovation
Asuka Nakahara is the most decorated teacher in the history of the Wharton Real Estate Department, having taught more than 1300 students in his Real Estate Development course and helped to launch the careers of generations of real estate professionals.
This Fund will enable the Center to continue the legacy of Asuka to connect students to industry leaders and to spur teaching innovation. Uses of funds include the engagement of Senior Fellows (executives-in-residence who coach students and connect them with real estate professionals) and organizing industry workshops to expose students to skills and tools used by practitioners.
